As India braces for a pivotal Day 3 at The Oval, ex-India fast bowler Varun Aaron supports captain Shubman Gill's potential to deliver a crucial knock. Gill, after an unfortunate run out in the first innings, is set to enhance India's lead and potentially steer England out of contention.

"Gill's approach will undoubtedly be more cautious regarding singles," noted JioHotstar analyst Aaron. Earlier, in the first innings, Gill's lapse in judgment led to his run out. Despite this, Aaron remains confident in Gill's exemplary form and mindset throughout the series.

Remarkably, Gill has already surpassed Sunil Gavaskar's record for the most runs by an Indian captain in a Test series, amassing 737 runs across nine innings. His stellar performance positions him close to setting a new record for India's highest run-scorer in a bilateral Test series.

Gill has consistently excelled under challenging English conditions, showcasing maturity and flair. Aaron suggests that a sizeable innings from Gill could help India extend their lead significantly, tipping the balance in their favor.

In the ongoing match, India initially fielded against England, who were dismissed for 224. Notable performances include Karun Nair and Washington Sundar's half-century partnership. On England's side, Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue dominated with the ball. By the day's end, India stood at 75/2, with Jaiswal and night-watchman Akash Deep at the crease, leading by 52 runs.
