Sharma, affectionately known as 'Hitman,' retired from Test cricket in May but continues to leave a significant legacy with 4,301 runs in 67 Tests, including 12 centuries. His most memorable performance came with a 212-run innings against South Africa in 2019. Sharma is celebrated as India's 16th-highest run-scorer in Test history.
In the ongoing Test at The Oval, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal's 118-run stand gave India an advantage by the end of the second session on Day 3. Team India, under Shubman Gill's leadership, led by 281 runs over England, with Jadeja and Jurel maintaining their positions on the crease.
