Aaditya Thackeray from Shiv Sena (UBT) criticized the Centre for permitting the India-Pakistan cricket match at the upcoming Asia Cup, especially after the recent Pahalgam attack. Calling it a 'mockery of emotions,' Thackeray questioned why the government hasn't urged the BCCI to withdraw from the tournament.
The Asia Cup, scheduled to commence on September 9 in the UAE, will see India and Pakistan face off in Dubai on September 14 and potentially again on September 21, with the final also in Dubai on September 29. The matches will be in the T20I format.
Thackeray's social media posts expressed indignation over prioritizing 'money and entertainment' over the sanctity of lives lost to terrorism. Additionally, he accused the government of exploiting the issue of Pakistan for electoral gain while allowing sporting ties, despite the ongoing tensions.
