Olympic javelin thrower Annu Rani emerged victorious at the World Athletics Bronze Level Continental Tour in Bhubaneswar, clinching gold in front of an enthusiastic home crowd. Her winning performance at Kalinga Stadium, where she registered a top throw of 62.01 meters, surpassed rivals Sri Lanka's N D.L. Hatarabag Leka (56.27m) and Deepika (54.20m).
Rani, aged 32, has been on an impressive trajectory, having recently thrown over 60 meters for the first time in over a year during an event in Poland. Her Bhubaneswar achievement marks the second consecutive event where her throws exceeded 60 meters, with a notable attempt of 61.01 meters coming in her penultimate try. Despite fatigue, Rani attributes her success to maintaining an optimal mindset.
In a conversation with ANI, Rani highlighted the significant differences in climate between Poland and India, which impacted her technical strategy. However, she praised the passionate Indian audience, expressing gratitude for their affection. With her sights set on the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo, Rani is determined to deliver a peak performance and aims to secure a medal.
