Ravichandran Ashwin, India's former spin sensation, has expressed concerns over Sanju Samson's chances of securing a spot in the national side for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. With Shubman Gill named as vice-captain, Ashwin believes Samson's playing position is 'in danger.'

The announcement of the squad, led by skipper Suryakumar and deputy Gill, was made on Tuesday during a press conference attended by top cricket officials, including BCCI's Devajit Saikia and Ajit Agarkar. Gill's inclusion as a potential regular is seen as jeopardizing Samson's place in the team.

Despite scoring three centuries as an opener, Samson faces competition from Jitesh Sharma, named as Samson's backup wicketkeeper-batter. Sharma has impressed with recent performances, including a pivotal innings in the IPL. India's fixtures against UAE, Pakistan, and Oman will start on September 10, with the final scheduled for September 28 in Dubai.
