Ajinkya Rahane, the seasoned India batter, has announced his decision to step down as the captain of Mumbai's cricket team ahead of the anticipated Ranji Trophy season, emphasizing the need for nurturing new leadership talent.
At 37, and with an impressive record of 14,000 runs in 201 first-class matches, Rahane remains committed to contributing as a player for the team. The Ranji Trophy is set to start on October 15, with Mumbai clashing against Jammu and Kashmir in their first match.
During his tenure, Rahane led Mumbai to clinch the Ranji Trophy title in the 2023-24 season and the Irani Cup 2024-25, and previously, the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2022-23, marking his legacy as a remarkable captain in Indian domestic cricket.
