The Sports Ministry unveiled plans for a grand pan-India celebration of National Sports Day, set to occur on August 29. This day, commemorating the birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand, will see citizens nationwide engaging in sports and fitness activities.

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated that the initiative aims to transform the country's sporting culture into a widespread movement, aligning the 2025 National Sports Day with the Olympic principles of Excellence, Friendship, and Respect. Events will be held in schools, universities, offices, and community spaces across the nation.

On August 29, a dedicated hour will see citizens participate in sports activities. Further activities, including talks and a Fit India carnival, will take place at SAI Regional Centres on subsequent days. The initiative also plans 'Sundays on Cycle,' underscoring India's commitment to becoming a sporting society.
