Sri Lanka's Hasaranga Out of Zimbabwe Tour: Squad Looks to Young Talent

Star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga will miss Sri Lanka's ODI series in Zimbabwe due to a hamstring injury. His absence paves the way for top-order batter Nuwanidu Fernando's return. The series starts August 29, with Sri Lanka aiming to build on their recent ODI success against Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka's dynamic spin bowling all-rounder, Wanindu Hasaranga, has been ruled out of the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against Zimbabwe following a hamstring injury. This setback comes as the Chevrons prepare to host Sri Lanka for two ODIs and three T20Is starting August 29 in Harare.

Hasaranga, a pivotal player in the white-ball format, will further delay his comeback as he recuperates from an injury sustained during a match against Bangladesh in July. Meanwhile, the national team recalls top-order batsman Nuwanidu Fernando, who returns after a year. Fernando last played against New Zealand in November 2024 and has slowly been capturing attention with his recent performance for Sri Lanka A against Australia A.

The series, beginning with two ODIs on August 29 and 31, will see all fixtures taking place at the Harare Sports Club. Sri Lanka aims to extend their robust ODI form after a 2-1 series win over Bangladesh and use this as a stepping stone for the Asia Cup preparations starting in September.
