In a challenging day for Indian Greco-Roman wrestlers at the U20 World Championships, three athletes were knocked out in their qualification rounds Friday. Anuj (67kg), Naman (97kg), and Vinit (72kg) failed to advance after losses to competitors from China, Croatia, and Egypt, respectively.
Anuj was defeated by China's Zhaoyan Liu in a bout decided by technical superiority (0-9), while Naman exited after a narrow pre-quarterfinal loss to Croatia's Andrej Rodin. Vinit was also ousted, losing to Egypt's Mohamed Shabaam Ibrahim. Anil Mor, despite a valiant 9-9 draw against Azerbaijan's Turan Dashdamirov, faces uncertainty about his future in the competition.
The Indian camp still carries hope, with five wrestlers contesting in medal bouts later today. Kajal aims for gold in the women's 72kg, and Shruti (50kg) and Saarika (53kg) are set for bronze battles. Greco-Roman athletes Suraj (60kg) and Prince (72kg) will also fight for bronze medals in their respective categories.
