Wushu Trials for Asian Games 2026 Kick Off in Srinagar
The Wushu Selection Trials for the 2026 Asian Games began in Srinagar at the Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex. Union MoS for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, inaugurated the event. Nearly 200 athletes will compete, with the final squad decided by 2026 based on multiple criteria.

The Wushu Selection Trials for the 20th Asian Games, which will take place in Japan in 2026, have officially commenced at the Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex in Srinagar. This three-day event was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, who praised the Wushu Association of India's efforts in planning and commitment to medal goals.
Around 200 athletes are participating in the Sanda (combat) category, while the Taolu (routine) selection trials are scheduled in Imphal later in August. According to the selection policy, the Wushu Association of India's Technical Committee will shortlist eight athletes across seven categories. Ongoing ranking tournaments will determine the final squad by June 2026.
Minister Khadse applauded the Wushu Association of Jammu and Kashmir for organizing the trials, emphasizing the region's potential as a martial arts training hub. The event also highlighted the potential boost to sports tourism in the area. Notable attendees included Anand Jain (IPS ADGP Armed J-K), Nuzhat Gul (Secretary, J-K Sports Council), and Vijay Saraf (General Secretary, WAI).
The weigh-in and draw procedures were completed on the first day, with bouts to follow over the weekend. The Selection Committee comprises key figures like national coach Kuldeep Handoo and international judges Sopan Shankar Katke and Sandeep Goswami.
