The ongoing diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan have seeped onto the cricket field, sparking a controversy over a handshake tradition. Following their match against India, Pakistan opted out of the customary post-match presentation, escalating a row over customary handshake practices. In retaliation, Pakistan canceled its pre-match press conference before the upcoming UAE game in Dubai, the Asian Cricket Council confirmed this development.

This decision follows Pakistan's dissatisfaction with match referee Andy Pycroft, whose conduct has been called into question by the PCB. The board demands his removal, alleging violations of the ICC Code of Conduct and MCC laws. Sources indicate that the ICC is likely to reject Pakistan's request, seen as part of an escalating diplomatic strain exacerbated by the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav justified his team's decision to forgo the handshake, citing solidarity with victims of the terror attack. Meanwhile, Pakistan's white-ball head coach, Mike Hesson, conveyed his disappointment over the incident, hinting at its links to captain Salman Agha's absence. As the diplomatic tension influences sportsmanship, both boards face international scrutiny over their handling of cricket diplomacy.
