Lewis Hamilton, the iconic seven-time Formula One world champion, described his ambitions to reach the podium with Ferrari this season as "far-fetched," yet he remains hopeful. Having joined the Italian team after leaving Mercedes last year, Hamilton has struggled to finish within the top three, despite his rich legacy in the sport.
As the 40-year-old driver approaches the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, he recalls his 105th victory in Belgium in 2024 and recognizes that Ferrari hasn't claimed a win since Carlos Sainz's success in Mexico City last October. Hamilton acknowledged the challenge, admitting, "A win is a bit far-fetched," but he remains optimistic for a podium finish, driven by Charles Leclerc's recent successful performances.
Hamilton's aspirations are bolstered by his previous win at Baku's City Circuit in 2018 with Mercedes. Despite setbacks in recent seasons, Hamilton believes the weekend could offer a fresh start, inspired by improvements noted at the Monza race. In conversation with France's L'Equipe, Hamilton expressed no plans to retire anytime soon, taking inspiration from fellow veteran Fernando Alonso.
