UCI Enhances Rider Safety with GPS Tracking at Road World Championships

In a significant move towards enhancing rider safety, the UCI announced that all competitors in this year's Road World Championships will have GPS trackers installed on their bikes. This decision comes in the wake of the tragic death of Swiss teenager Muriel Furrer during last year's championships.
Furrer's untimely demise, which occurred after she was left unattended by the roadside for an extended period, has prompted the introduction of the SafeR tracking technology. Originally tested in August during the Tour de Romandie Feminin in Switzerland, the technology is set to be implemented at the upcoming event in Kigali, Rwanda.
The UCI President, David Lappartient, emphasized the significance of this 'important and necessary progress' towards ensuring riders' safety. The Road World Championships, marking its debut in Africa, promises enhanced safety measures with real-time location tracking to quickly address any incidents on the racecourse.
