In a solemn tribute, Odisha's political leaders, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, expressed deep condolences on the passing of Bijay Kumar Satpathy, an Arjuna awardee and lauded weightlifter.

Satpathy, who passed away at 73 in Berhampur due to age-related ailments, had a remarkable career. He was praised for bringing significant pride to Odisha and India through his national and international achievements in weightlifting, such as his gold medal at the 1981 Mini Commonwealth Games and silver at the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.

Along with his decorated career, Satpathy was honored with the Arjuna Award in 1982. In honoring Satpathy, Sports Minister Suryabanshi Suraj highlighted the profound void left in Odisha's sports world by his passing.
