In a rain-disrupted opening day of the Jakarta International Championship at the Damai Indah Golf PIK Course, veteran Rahil Gangjee stands out as the best-placed Indian golfer. The 47-year-old, who has twice claimed victory on the Asian Tour, delivered a flawless four-under 66, carding birdies on the 9th, 13th, 14th, and 16th holes. He trails the clubhouse leader by three strokes, according to a release from LIV Golf.
Meanwhile, Gaganjeet Bhullar matched Gangjee's score but could only complete 16 holes before darkness suspended play. The Olympian, renowned for his success in Indonesia, began strong with an eagle on the 545-yard par-five first hole and was four under through the first four holes. However, after securing another birdie on the 11th, he bogeyed the par-three 15th shortly before play was called off for the day. Khalin Joshi and Viraj Madappa are also in the clubhouse at two under.
Leading the pack is Thailand's Suteepat Prateeptienchai, who shot an impressive seven-under 63. Close on his heels are Australia's Wade Ormsby, Mexico's Roberto Lebrija, and Chinese Taipei's Chang Wei-lun, each with rounds of 64. Morning rain caused delays of one hour and 20 minutes, meaning 45 players will conclude their first round early on Friday before the second round begins. The event is one of nine elevated tournaments on the Asian Tour calendar, serving as a pathway to the LIV Golf League through a season-long rankings race.
