With India's aspirations to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2036 Olympics, there is a pressing need to enhance infrastructure for the differently-abled. This call to action was emphasized by the Paralympic Committee of India's President, Devendra Jhajharia, and accessibility partner Svayam at a recent gathering.

Svayam, which played a significant role in providing accessible transport for para-athletes at the recently concluded World Para-Athletics Championships, stressed the importance of making accessibility a central focus of India's development plans.

Sminu Jindal, Founder-Chairperson of Svayam, argued that accessible infrastructure in tourism, transport, hospitality, and public spaces is crucial not only for hosting prestigious international events but also for boosting the nation's economy. Jindal cited the World Bank's Inclusive Cities Report 2022, noting that investment in accessibility ahead of major events can yield substantial benefits.
