Sabastian Sawe's Historic Sub-Two-Hour Marathon Triumph
Kenya's Sabastian Sawe stunned the world by running the first sub-two-hour marathon, finishing the London Marathon in 1:59:30. Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha finished second, while Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo took third. Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa also broke her own women's marathon record. Switzerland's Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner won the wheelchair events.
Kenyan runner Sabastian Sawe made history at the London Marathon, becoming the first man to complete a marathon in under two hours. Sawe clocked an astonishing 1:59:30, setting a new world record.
In the dramatic race, Ethiopia's Yomif Kejelcha tailed Sawe closely, finishing in 1:59:41. Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo completed the podium, registering a time of 2:02:28. The event also witnessed Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa breaking her own women's marathon world record, finishing in 2:15:41.
In the wheelchair categories, Switzerland's Marcel Hug and Catherine Debrunner emerged victorious. Hug secured his sixth consecutive London win, and eighth overall, while Debrunner claimed her third successive victory, edging past American Tatyana McFadden.
