In a monumental achievement in athletics, Kenya's Sabastian Sawe ran a marathon in under two hours, marking an unprecedented moment in the sport's history. Sawe finished the London Marathon in 1:59:30, eclipsing Kelvin Kiptum's previous record of 2:00:35 set at the Chicago Marathon in 2023.

Yomif Kejelcha of Ethiopia and Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda took second and third place respectively, also finishing in under remarkable times. Sawe's record-breaking performance comes after years of anticipation and attempts to cross the elusive sub-two-hour marathon barrier, previously accomplished only in controlled settings.

In the women's race, Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia set a new world record by finishing in 2:15:41, surpassing her previous record. The London Marathon offered ideal conditions for setting new records, with mild temperatures and light winds assisting runners in achieving groundbreaking times.
