The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a stern warning to Indian Premier League (IPL) teams found violating league norms in the 2026 season. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia announced on Saturday that teams breaching the rules will face strict consequences.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced scrutiny for violations, including their team manager, Ravinder Singh Bhinder, using a mobile phone near the dugout during a match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and captain Riyan Parag vaping in the dressing room. Bhinder was fined Rs 1 lakh, and Parag faced a 25 per cent match fee penalty along with a demerit point.
Saikia, speaking at the Women's T20 World Cup 2026 squad announcement in Mumbai, mentioned exploring various options to enforce compliance. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the IPL's image and stated, 'As a team, they must uphold decorum.' Similarly, Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara highlighted the team's commitment to values and discipline.
