The final of this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) has been moved to Ahmedabad, citing operational and logistical hurdles at the original venue, Bengaluru, as stated by the cricket board on Wednesday.
Last year's Royal Challengers Bengaluru celebration turned tragic when 11 people died in a stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium. Authorities reassessed safety protocols before approving it for this season, including the planned May 31 final.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia explained that unforeseen local requirements necessitated the venue change. Dharamsala will host the first qualifier on May 26, with New Chandigarh handling the eliminator and second qualifier, before spotlight shifts to the 132,000-seater Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad for the final.
