Daniel Siebert: A Referee's Journey Through UEFA's Top Matches
German referee Daniel Siebert has been selected by UEFA to officiate the Champions League final after being excluded from FIFA's World Cup list. The final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain on May 30 in Budapest will mark Siebert's 10th Champions League game this season.
On Monday, UEFA announced that German referee Daniel Siebert will officiate the upcoming Champions League final, stepping in after FIFA excluded him from its World Cup roster. His officiating career this season includes nine crucial games, with his 10th being the highly anticipated Arsenal versus Paris Saint-Germain match.
Siebert's experience on the pitch is vast. In addition to handling pivotal Champions League matches, such as Arsenal's 1-0 victories over Sporting Lisbon and Atletico Madrid, he has also officiated for PSG. His performance includes handing out two red cards and awarding one penalty in his nine Champions League appearances thus far.
Despite his skills showcased in two European Championships and the 2022 World Cup, FIFA opted for fellow German referee Felix Zwayer for the 2026 World Cup. Other notable UEFA final appointments include Tess Olofsson for the Women's Champions League final and François Letexier for the Europa League final.
