Ryan Lochte Makes Waves: From World-Class Swimmer to Missouri State Coach
Ryan Lochte, an acclaimed U.S. swimmer with 12 Olympic medals, is set to join Missouri State University as an assistant coach for the swimming teams. Known for his exceptional talent and some controversial moments, Lochte brings a wealth of experience to his new role in college athletics.
Six-time Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte is taking on a new role. The decorated swimmer will join Missouri State University as an assistant coach for its men's and women's swimming teams later this year. Lochte, aged 41, is one of the most accomplished swimmers in U.S. history, having secured 12 Olympic medals across four Olympic Games, including relay golds in Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio 2016.
In the realm of Olympic swimming medals, only fellow Americans Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky surpass Lochte. Regarding his new position, Lochte expressed admiration for Missouri State, highlighting the university's sense of purpose, accountability, and team-first mentality.
Originally from New York, Lochte gained prominence at the University of Florida and became a leading swimmer of his generation. His career, however, was not without controversy, most famously during the Rio Olympics when he faced suspension for falsely claiming he and his teammates were robbed at gunpoint. Despite his bid to qualify for a fifth Olympics falling short at the 2021 U.S. Olympic trials, Lochte's impact on the sport remains undeniable.
