Former India goalkeeper and junior men's team coach PR Sreejesh voiced his discontent publicly after being dismissed from his role after a brief 17 months. Sreejesh's tenure concluded with five podium finishes, yet Hockey India opted to advertise for a foreign replacement instead of renewing his contract.

In a pointed social media post, Sreejesh questioned Hockey India's preference, highlighting his coaching achievements, including a Junior World Cup bronze medal. Despite being a celebrated figure in Indian hockey, Sreejesh noted that this was the first instance where he experienced dismissal amid success, reportedly due to a preference for foreign leadership.

Sreejesh urged for recognition of Indian coaches' capabilities, referencing a conversation with Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya that emphasized the need for domestic talent in coaching roles. Nevertheless, Hockey India's inclination towards overseas coaches remains evident, as noted by their recent decisions affecting all national teams.
