Son Heung-min to Lead South Korea in Pursuit of World Cup Glory

Veteran football star Son Heung-min has been named the captain of South Korea's World Cup team, as revealed by coach Hong Myung-bo on Saturday. The tournament, taking place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, marks Son's fourth appearance on the World Cup stage.

Son, who transferred to Los Angeles FC from Tottenham after a decade in the Premier League, will lead a 26-man squad that aims to advance further than the previous round of 16 achieved in 2022. Joining the roster are notable players such as Lee Kang-in from Paris Saint-Germain and Kim Min-jae of Bayern Munich.

South Korea, with its 11th consecutive World Cup presence dating back to 1986, will play group matches in Mexico. Despite recent losses to Ivory Coast and Austria, coach Hong remains optimistic about South Korea's prospects, with a primary goal set to reach the round of 32.
