Revolutionizing School Sports: A New Dawn in PE Training
The International School Sports Organisation is set to elevate India's school sports by upskilling PE trainers with a new program. Former national basketball coach Veselin Matic will lead the initiative, aiming to align training with international standards and broaden the sports ecosystem beyond professional gameplay.
The International School Sports Organisation (ISSO) is on a mission to transform India's school sports landscape by upskilling physical education trainers. Director Aakanksha Thapak emphasized the critical need for enhanced training to elevate sports performance in schools, revealing significant advancements in the sporting ecosystem over the past decade.
ISSO, in collaboration with the International School Federation (ISF) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), is launching an exclusive PE Educators Upskill Program. This initiative, led by former national basketball coach Veselin Matic, will take place from May 25 to June 2 in Delhi/NCR. The program seeks to address the fundamental challenge of aligning school coaching frameworks with international standards.
Thapak noted the prevalent issue of competition and the dominance of cricket over other sports, attributing it to limited career prospects in non-cricket sports. However, she highlighted the growing confidence among parents and the expanding sports ecosystem with government initiatives and corporate support, driving a transformative shift in the sporting opportunities for the youth in India.
