In a notable performance, R Praggnanandhaa triumphed over Magnus Carlsen, securing three points in the third round of Norway Chess. His outstanding play in Oslo follows a successful stint in Bucharest, now placing him second with 4.5 points, only trailing the tournament leader Alireza Firouzja.

Meanwhile, world champion D Gukesh continued his streak of tough results, falling short against Firouzja in the tiebreaker game after a drawn classical match. Gukesh admitted Firouzja was dominant throughout. His current fourth-place standing belies the difficulties he's encountered since his championship win.

Praggnanandhaa's latest victory underscores his rising prowess, having also defeated Carlsen in a classical match previously. He described the win as significant, a testament to his growth and competitiveness on the global chess stage.

As Gukesh prepares to defend his title against challenger Javokhir Sindarov later this year, his focus will be on overcoming current hurdles and regaining momentum.
