Pioneering Green Steel: A Sustainable Revolution in the Steel Industry

Union Minister H D Kumaraswamy has underscored the importance of integrating low-carbon technologies into the steel production process, insisting that it has transformed from an option to an essential step towards decarbonization.

Addressing the 'BigMint Future Steel Conclave', the Minister emphasized the role of innovation in emerging technologies within the steel sector. He stated that green steel, guided by a comprehensive taxonomy, is critical for aligning with India's ambitious target of reaching a 300 million tonne steel capacity by 2030 while adhering to a net-zero emissions pledge by 2070.

The Indian steel industry, accounting for 7% of global CO2 emissions, holds a critical responsibility to lead global decarbonization efforts. The Ministry is actively crafting policies to promote and protect the domestic market, ensuring strong international competition, Kumaraswamy remarked.
