Prices for Chinese-manufactured goods on Amazon have seen a significant rise, surpassing general inflation rates, according to a comprehensive DataWeave analysis conducted solely for Reuters. This increase highlights the tangible impact of U.S. tariffs on consumers. Starting in May, the tariffs have increasingly influenced consumer prices.

The DataWeave study scrutinized over 25,000 items, focusing on 1,407 products that clearly identify China as their origin. By using median prices to avoid skewed results, the analysis indicates a marked increase in prices for electronic devices and home essentials. The report notes that 475 out of the tracked items experienced price hikes, while some remained stable or even saw reductions.

The acceleration of price increases in May and June, particularly in the home and electronics sectors, suggests a ripple effect in the retail supply chain, according to DataWeave CEO Karthik Bettadapura. Despite Amazon's statement on price stability, retailers like Walmart and Macy's have warned of tariff-induced cost increments as they navigate a marketplace influenced by tariffs and cautious consumer spending.
