The government of Goa has announced plans to establish a comprehensive optical fibre cable network throughout the state, with the intent to elevate internet connectivity for every household. This ambitious project, as revealed by Information Technology Minister Rohan Khaunte, aims to form the backbone of the state's 'Har Ghar Fibre' initiative.
Addressing the issue in response to a query by independent MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye during the monsoon session of the state assembly, Minister Khaunte detailed that the initiative seeks to provide affordable, high-speed internet connectivity, thereby enhancing access to various digital services like education, healthcare, and e-governance for Goa's residents.
In line with the Center's Digital India programme, the initiative is designed to reduce the digital divide, especially in underserved regions. The project is set to be executed under a Public-Private Partnership model, leveraging existing infrastructures and providing phased rollout with priority given to areas lacking adequate connectivity. Completion timelines will follow a structured tendering and execution plan.
