A Colombian national, acting on behalf of Russian intelligence services, conducted arson attacks in Poland and later targeted a bus depot in the Czech Republic, according to the Polish Internal Security Agency (ABW). The 27-year-old suspect committed the acts in May 2024, as part of a Russian hybrid warfare strategy.
ABW spokesperson Jacek Dobrzynski revealed that the suspect was trained by Russian intelligence to create incendiary devices and that the arson attacks were used in Russian propaganda. Russian media propagated false claims about one fire incident, alleging it targeted a military logistics center aiding Ukraine.
Further attacks were reportedly being planned by the Colombian in the Czech Republic but were thwarted by authorities. He was arrested and sentenced to eight years in prison for terrorism activities, while facing further charges in Poland that could result in a life sentence. Poland continues to be the target of hybrid warfare tactics deployed by Russia.
