More than 90 state and local governments have fallen victim to a newly identified vulnerability in Microsoft server software, a U.S. nonprofit confirmed. The Center for Internet Security, responsible for coordinating cybersecurity efforts among government entities, revealed the widespread targeting of official systems.

Despite the scale of the attack, Randy Rose, the center's vice president, assured that no violations have been confirmed. The vulnerability has cast a shadow over security, with reports indicating that nearly 400 organizations globally, including significant U.S. federal bodies, have been impacted.

Fermilab, a prominent U.S. Department of Energy lab, confirmed an attempted breach, which was swiftly contained before any critical data could be accessed. The incident, first reported by Bloomberg, underscores the persistent threat posed by the Microsoft SharePoint flaw.
