VinFast Ignites Thoothukudi's EV Revolution
Thoothukudi, a key port city in Tamil Nadu, is undergoing a transformation with the arrival of VinFast's electric vehicle plant. The facility is set to reshape the city's industrial future and support the state's growing EV ambitions. This investment promises extensive job creation and economic growth.

Thoothukudi, once primarily known for its bustling docks and pearl fisheries, is on the verge of an industrial renaissance with the inauguration of VinFast's electric vehicle plant. The Vietnamese conglomerate's facility is poised to transform the local economy, introducing a new era of all-electric vehicle production in southern Tamil Nadu.
Founded in 2017 under Vietnam's Vingroup, VinFast quickly ascended to becoming Vietnam's top-selling car brand. By 2024, its electric SUVs had begun gaining traction across the globe. The company's strategic choice to establish its Indian base in Tamil Nadu, following competition from 15 sites across six states, underscores the state's appealing infrastructure and conducive business climate.
With significant investments and collaborations with local players in EV and battery technology, the plant aims to not only manufacture premium electric vehicles but also foster a comprehensive EV ecosystem. By leveraging the state's strategic coordination and workforce development initiatives, VinFast is expected to create thousands of jobs, further cementing Tamil Nadu's position as a burgeoning hub for EV innovation.
