In a major development for Russia's space ambitions, the country's newly developed Soyuz-5 rocket successfully completed its inaugural test launch. The event took place at the Baikonur cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, with the state space agency Roscosmos confirming its flawless lift-off.
Touted as a revolutionary step in space exploration, the Soyuz-5 is equipped with the world's most powerful liquid-fuelled engine. This advanced technology allows it to carry up to 17 metric tonnes into near earth orbit, providing a more cost-effective solution for satellite launches.
According to Dmitry Bakanov, head of Roskosmos, the Soyuz-5 not only marks the first new launch vehicle since 2014, but also promises to create new jobs in both Russia and Kazakhstan, thereby boosting the local economy.
