India Boosts Semiconductor Mission with New Facilities
The Union Cabinet has approved two new semiconductor manufacturing projects in Gujarat with a total investment of over Rs 3,936 crore. The projects, part of the India Semiconductor Mission, will enhance the country's semiconductor ecosystem and create over 2,230 jobs, boosting India's tech capabilities.
In a significant boost to India's technological landscape, the Union Cabinet has sanctioned two additional semiconductor manufacturing units with an investment aggregate surpassing Rs 3,936 crore. Announced by Union Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, these ventures fall under the ambit of the India Semiconductor Mission, marking a pivotal stride in the nation's semiconductor sector.
Among the approved projects, Crystal Matrix Ltd from South Korea will establish a facility in Dholera, Gujarat, focusing on compound semiconductor fabrication utilizing cutting-edge GaN technology. This initiative aims to produce mini/micro-LED display modules, catering to a wide range of applications from large TV displays to compact wearable tech.
Concurrently, Suchi Semicon Private Limited will set up an Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Surat, positioning itself to meet both domestic and international demand. With these developments, India's semiconductor project roster under the mission is now 12 strong, with a staggering investment total of Rs 1.64 lakh crore, signifying a robust push towards self-reliance in this critical industry.
