Apple settled a $250 million consumer class-action lawsuit after delaying AI upgrades to its Siri voice assistant. Filed by Peter Landsheft, the suit claimed the absence of promised features harmed shareholders. Apple admitted no fault but confirmed new features at its upcoming developer conference.
Apple has agreed to a $250 million settlement in a consumer class-action lawsuit over delayed artificial intelligence upgrades to its Siri voice assistant. The lawsuit, initiated by Peter Landsheft in a U.S. federal court in California, followed the absence of promised AI features in the iPhone's 2024 launch.
After announcing numerous AI enhancements at their 2024 software developer conference, Apple faced allegations of harming shareholders for failing to deliver on those promises. Although the new Siri features were postponed to 2025, they are now confirmed for unveiling at next month's annual developer conference.
The settlement, which awaits judicial approval, does not include an admission of fault by Apple. The tech giant maintains its focus on providing innovative products and services and has introduced other AI features since the 2024 release of Apple Intelligence.
