Sunil Mittal's Vision: Bharti Airtel's Future with Majority Stake
Sunil Bharti Mittal aims to hand over Bharti Airtel's leadership within the next decade while regaining a controlling stake through Bharti Telecom. This involves increasing Bharti Telecom's current 40.47% stake to over 50% by investing approximately Rs 1 lakh crore, depending on Airtel's performance and market conditions.
Sunil Bharti Mittal, the telecom magnate, plans to transfer the leadership of Bharti Airtel within the next decade. His ambitious strategy involves Bharti Telecom, the promoter firm, regaining a controlling majority stake of over 50% in Airtel.
Presently, Bharti Telecom holds a 40.47% stake in Airtel. Mittal revealed that increasing this stake by about 10% would necessitate significant investment, approximately Rs 1 lakh crore, based on the current share price and market capitalization.
The move aligns with Mittal's vision of having a single entity holding a controlling stake, establishing Bharti Telecom as the central shareholder. The acquisition process, expected to finalize in 3-4 years, heavily relies on Airtel's executive team executing strategic buybacks and cash flow strategies.
