India stands at the forefront of global artificial intelligence (AI) deployment, leveraging its massive pool of developers and rapid enterprise adoption. According to a senior Microsoft executive, the country's robust digital infrastructure plays a pivotal role in this positioning.

Jay Parikh, Executive Vice President of CoreAI at Microsoft, highlights that Indian developers are the second-largest contributors to AI-specific open-source projects, achieving over 7.5 million contributions. Parikh emphasizes that the future of AI lies not in simply crafting the best models, but in scaling and deploying them effectively and with real-world impact.

Parikh's insights are backed by Deloitte's 2026 enterprise AI survey, which places India first among 15 countries for AI adoption at scale. He stresses that India's digital infrastructure, like its UPI payment system, underpins this advancement, potentially leading to a unique AI public infrastructure embedded across sectors like finance, healthcare, and education.
