A parliamentary committee in India is closely examining the impact of 5G network slicing services and its implications on net neutrality. The committee, led by Nishikant Dubey, has asked the Department of Telecommunications and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to review such services in other countries, like Singapore and the UK.

The priority post-paid plans of telecom operators have come under scrutiny due to concerns they might compromise the net neutrality of millions of pre-paid mobile users. The committee requires detailed responses from DoT and TRAI within 25 days for further evaluation.

Additionally, members are keen on involving major digital and social media platforms, such as Meta, X, Google, and Amazon, to clarify their positions on net neutrality.

The discussions are fueled by the launch of Airtel's Priority Postpaid, marking India's first consumer 5G network-slicing service. While enhancing network performance for premium users, this initiative poses potential threats to the fundamental principles of net neutrality.
