Mumbai Air Traffic Control (ATC) is grappling with a significant increase in air traffic following the closure of Pakistani airspace. Normally tasked with managing flights originating from and over Mumbai, the ATC is now handling additional international routes diverted from Northern India.

The airspace restrictions come after Pakistan reacted to India's diplomatic moves post the Pahalgam terrorist attack by closing its airspace to Indian airlines. India reciprocated by barring Pakistani aircraft from its airspace on April 30, leading to changes in international flight paths.

As a result, Mumbai ATC is currently managing an unprecedented number of flights rerouted through its airspace as airlines seek to avoid tensions affecting Pakistani airspace. The increase includes flights from Northern India, Southeast Asia, and nearly 25 closed routes for entering Pakistan.
