The East Central Railway zone is taking measures to ensure the comfort of its loco pilots by installing air conditioning units at running rooms in Saharsa junction, following grievances regarding unbearable temperatures.
On May 9, amidst intense heat, the loco pilots boycotted the non-conditioned running rooms, opting instead for the crew lobby, a space primarily for reporting duty. The Samsatipur division responded quickly, placing an order for 273 AC units to prevent such occurrences.
Previously, the Samastipur Division engaged private contractors to temporarily install ACs during the summer, a practice criticized for frequent delays in tender finalization. The decision to purchase ACs aims to provide a longstanding solution, prioritizing pilot comfort and safety in train operations.
