The devastating crash of an Air India plane in Ahmedabad has claimed 270 lives. So far, 87 victims have been identified through DNA matching, and 47 bodies have been returned to their families, authorities reported on Monday.
Efforts to identify the victims continue, as many bodies were charred and unrecognizable following the June 12 crash. "Till now, 87 DNA samples have been matched, and 47 bodies have already been handed over to the respective families. These deceased were from various districts in Gujarat," stated Dr. Rajnish Patel, additional civil superintendent.
The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, crashed into a medical college complex moments after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport at 1:39 pm. The incident left 241 aboard dead, with one survivor. Tragically, 29 people on the ground also perished, including five medical students.
