A week after a tragic Air India plane crash claimed 270 lives in Ahmedabad, authorities have identified 211 victims through DNA matching. The ill-fated flight, AI-171, was en route to London with 242 passengers and crew before it disastrously collided with a medical complex shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad airport.

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash led to all but one aboard perishing, along with 29 individuals on the ground. Efforts to identify victims have been challenging due to bodies being charred beyond recognition, necessitating thorough DNA testing.

As of Thursday morning, 211 DNA matches have been made, and 189 bodies have been returned to families, according to Dr. Rakesh Joshi from Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. Among the identified victims are 142 Indians, 32 British citizens, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian.
