N Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Tata Sons, was absent from the Annual General Meeting of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India's largest IT services company, for two consecutive days, as reported on Thursday. TCS' Company Secretary Yashaswin Sheth informed shareholders about Chandrasekaran's absence, citing 'some exigencies' as the reason.
Chandrasekaran's focus has been on the tragic Air India plane crash that occurred last week, resulting in the deaths of at least 270 people, including passengers and crew. This crash has profoundly affected the Tata Group, leading to Chandrasekaran missing the AGM of Tata Consumer Products as well.
In his absence, independent director Keki Mistry presided over the AGM. Mistry, a veteran in the finance industry, expressed the group's deep sorrow and solidarity with the affected families, noting the unimaginable losses faced. A minute's silence was observed at the TCS board meeting to pay tribute to the victims.
