The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is determining where to decode the black box of Air India's crashed Dreamliner, officials announced Thursday. This decision comes after the tragic crash on June 12 in Ahmedabad, which killed around 270 people when the aircraft hit a medical complex shortly after take-off.
According to Campbell Wilson, CEO of Air India, the ill-fated Boeing 787-8 was well-maintained, having undergone a major check in June 2023. However, Air India chose to reduce its wide-body fleet operations by 15% due to increased safety checks, impacting some travel plans.
An investigation by AAIB, alongside a high-level panel led by the Home Secretary, is underway to uncover the crash's causes. Two black box sets have been recovered for analysis. Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation has ordered enhanced surveillance of Air India's Boeing 787 fleet. The full investigation report is pending release.
