In May, retail inflation rates for farm and rural workers saw a notable decline, recording 2.84% and 2.97% respectively, figures released by the Labour Ministry have revealed. This marks a decrease from the previous month's rates of 3.48% and 3.53%.
The decline is reflected in the Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labourers (CPI-AL) and Rural Labourers (CPI-RL), which dropped by 2 points and 1 point, standing at 1305 and 1319 points for May 2025.
Comparing year-on-year data, inflation for May 2025 is significantly lower than in May 2024, which saw rates at 7.00% and 7.02%. This downward trend could indicate an easing economic climate for rural areas.
