In a landmark achievement for India's construction sector, the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited has launched the first 40-metre pre-stressed concrete box girder for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor in Maharashtra.

The massive girder, weighing 970 metric tonnes, was successfully positioned at Sakhare village in Dahanu. It is noted for being the heaviest of its kind ever used in the country. Cast as a single monolithic unit with 390 cubic meters of concrete and 42 metric tonnes of steel, the girder's design innovation allows construction to progress up to ten times faster than traditional methods, according to NHSRCL.

To maintain this rapid construction pace, NHSRCL is employing cutting-edge, specialized indigenous machinery including straddle carriers, bridge launching gantries, and girder transporters, enhancing both efficiency and precision in the installation process.
