In a recent address, Kenya's former prime minister Raila Odinga expressed his disappointment regarding the collapse of the Adani deal, which aimed to expand and manage Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). This revelation came during the National Executive Retreat in Karen, Nairobi.
Mr. Odinga attributed the project's dissolution to political interference. According to Odinga, the cancelled deal could have elevated Nairobi as a regional economic anchor, akin to the rapid developments seen in Addis Ababa.
The proposed agreement, valued at nearly USD 2 billion, included constructing a second runway and upgrading JKIA's passenger terminal, with Adani managing operations under a 30-year lease.
