A nearly year-long salvage operation has reached its final phase as experts hoist the sunken superyacht of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch from the waters off Sicily. The tragedy, which claimed the lives of Lynch and six others, occurred during a sudden storm last August.
Accelerated efforts by TMC Marine, despite previous setbacks, have brought the operation to near completion, with intricate preparations paving the way for the vessel's delicate retrieval. The process had previously been paused following a diver's death during the operation.
Stored in Porticello when it capsized in high winds, the yacht has undergone significant preparation, including detachment of its mast for easier recovery. Italian authorities are expected to take over once the vessel is moved to Termini Imerese, marking a significant step in ongoing investigations.
