India has made significant strides in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), securing its position among the top 100 nations for the first time. As per the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network's latest report, India stands at the 99th rank on the 2025 SDG Index with a commendable score of 67.
Despite progress in East and South Asia, global advancement on SDG targets has largely stalled. The report, spearheaded by economist Jeffrey Sachs, indicates that only 17% of the targets set in 2015 are likely to be met by 2030. Structural vulnerabilities and conflicts have been cited as critical impediments to achieving these goals.
While Nordic nations lead the index, countries worldwide face hurdles in addressing climate and biodiversity issues. Moreover, the global financial system demands urgent reform to facilitate capital flows to emerging economies with high growth potential, emphasizing this need at the upcoming International Conference on Financing for Development.
