Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to lead the 25th Central Zonal Council meeting in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday. Chief Ministers from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Chhattisgarh will join the discussions, which aim to tackle issues such as regional security, development, health, and administrative coordination.

The Central Zonal Council, comprising Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh, seeks to enhance cooperation among states, address inter-state disputes, and promote equitable resource utilization. Organized by the Inter-State Council Secretariat under the Ministry of Home Affairs in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh government, the meeting underscores the importance of dialogue in fostering development.

Established under the States Reorganisation Act, 1956, five Zonal Councils operate under the Union Home Minister's chairmanship. Their advisory role fosters cooperation, evidenced by 61 meetings in the past decade. The councils address national issues such as the swift investigation of sexual offenses and regional development matters, underlining the importance of cooperative federalism.
